SHORT FILM: AN IRISH GOODBYE

“An Irish Goodbye” is a poignant and emotional short film directed by Ross White and Tom Berkeley in 2022.

The film is about estranged brothers who are forced to reunite after the sudden death of their mother. Turlough (played by Seamus O’Hara) returns home to deal with Lorcan (played by James Martin), who has Down syndrome and works the family farm. Lorcan plans to continue to operate the farm with his brother, but they are dashed when it soon becomes apparent that Turlough has other plans: sell the farm and send Lorcan to live with their Aunt. Things suddenly take a drastic turn when an unfulfilled bucket list belonging to their late mother is discovered. Lorcan decides that the wishes on the list must be fulfilled to honor their late mother, and Turlough reluctantly agrees if his original plans are met.

A heartwarming emotional reconnection follows between two brothers as they journey through grief and rediscovery.

The film won Best Live Action Short Film at the 2023 Academy Awards, a BAFTA for Best Live Action Short, and multiple awards from numerous film festivals worldwide.
