“High-Rise” is a 2015 dystopian thriller film directed by Ben Wheatley, based on the 1975 novel of the same name by J.G. Ballard. The movie features an ensemble cast of talented actors, including Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans, and Elisabeth Moss.

The story takes place in a high-rise building in London in the 1970s. The building, designed by an architect named Anthony Royal (Jeremy Irons), is self-contained with everything its residents need: apartments, supermarkets, gyms, swimming pools, and even a school. The residents of the building are divided by class, with the wealthy living on the upper floors and the lower classes residing on, the lower floors.

The story’s protagonist is Dr. Robert Laing (Tom Hiddleston), a young doctor who moves into the building’s 25th floor. At first, he is impressed by the building’s amenities and lifestyle. He soon becomes friends with his neighbor, the enigmatic Charlotte Melville (Sienna Miller), and gets to know other residents, including the volatile documentary filmmaker Richard Wilder (Luke Evans).

However, tensions rise as the building’s infrastructure fails and the social order breaks down. The lower-class residents resent their wealthy neighbors, and a violent revolution erupts. The residents of the upper floors, led by Royal, barricade themselves in their penthouses, while the lower floors become a war zone.

As the chaos intensifies, Laing becomes increasingly drawn to the darker aspects of the building’s culture. He becomes involved in a decadent party scene, where drugs and sex are freely available. Eventually, he becomes embroiled in the conflict between the building’s residents and is forced to choose sides.

High-Rise explores class conflict, power, and corruption. The ensemble cast delivers powerful performances, particularly Tom Hiddleston, who gives a compelling portrayal of a man descending into madness. The film’s vivid imagery, stylish direction, and haunting soundtrack make it a must-see for fans of dystopian cinema.
