It is with heavy hearts that we learned today the passing of visionary filmmaker David Lynch at 78. Lynch was a true original and played a significant role in the rise of independent cinema in the late 1970s. He also created one of the last true “water cooler” cultural phenomena on television in the early 1990s with “Twin Peaks.” In addition to being a filmmaker, Lynch was also a talented artist and musician.

Throughout his career, he produced ten feature films, along with numerous short films and music videos, including the iconic “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak in 1990. From 2005 to 2009, he also provided the daily weather forecast for the Los Angeles radio station Indie 103. If you lived in Los Angeles, you’ll remember it as a real gem in the mornings.

I had the distinct honor of meeting Mr. Lynch back in the late 90s when one of my P.A. brothers, the late John T. Churchill, was his personal assistant on ‘Lost Highway’ and later served as a Second Assistant Director on ‘Mulholland Drive.’ John introduced me to Mr. Lynch at a function in West Hollywood. Though I don’t remember much of our interaction, as it was brief and consisted mainly of pleasantries, I do recall feeling that I was in the presence of a true visionary—someone whose films had deeply inspired and influenced me.
Godspeed, David Lynch; the world will miss you!
